Stay Fit This Autumn

autumn runner - CopyAutumn is truly here and it’s a great time of the year to go out for a good long walk and enjoy the lovely colours.  Using a FREE phone app – MAP MY RUN – I’ve mapped out a 3K circuit starting from the office, where I can go out and walk or jog a little. Along the circuit I stop to do five exercises (2×40 secs) on a bench at the village green and I’m still back at the office within thirty minutes! It’s a fabtastic mini exercise programme and a great way to use just a little time to stay fit. Plus it really frees the mind too, and I have some great “lightbulb” moments while I’m out of the office and enjoying the great outdoors. The Map My Run app is excellent: it’s motivational, it shows on the map where you’ve been, and it records the results so that you can monitor times and cross-check on it each time. Especially useful when you remember that exercise should be about PROGRESSION.

Now is a great time to add another dimension to your training in preparation for the festive season’s calorific overload – so get it in the bank now while you can.

Summer is in the Air!

introSummer is in the air, and the days are getting longer – in terms of daylight, that is. Now is the best time of year to dump the indoors and hit the outdoors when it comes to training.  Even we are taking advantage of the lighter evenings and moving some of our classes outside to warm up and cool down. And if the mood is right, or the class requests it, the whole thing takes place in nature’s gym – fantastic! Being able to leave the gym and train and work somewhere like Bleinheim is a dream.

On a recent and infrequent trip to London I couldn’t believe what I saw … every commuter glued to some form of electronic gadget, with no social interaction, and then they get “pushed” onto the Underground like sardines.  Forget the jungle … “I’m in London, get me out of here!” We’re so lucky to live and train in this region.

Focus on “The Triple Whammy!”

Now on a Wednesday you can come to the Kirtlington class and take one of three programmes in a single class: general conditioning, ski fitness, or running.  I don’t know of any other class where you get such a choice – 60 exercises to choose from!So far the feedback has been great, especially from those who have returned from recent ski trips. Some members even “mix and match”, combining bits of all the programmes.

If you know of any runners (especially as we build towards the 2014 Town & Gown) or Easter skiers this class is for them.

Please spread the word … and take advantage of the guest pass so your friends can have their first visit for free
A class member recently said “You’re the only person I know who makes me feel good being a loser* … ” Gotta love the feedback!*(Of course they were talking about their weight!)

Barry Briefs the JR II Runners Ahead of their Big Day …

Spring is well and truly here and I’ve been enjoying the lighter mornings and listening to the birds singing whilst I take personal training sessions in the parks or at Blenheim Palace. You can even sense the change of seasons from the smell of the soil as it warms up. No, it’s not a nasty doggy foul smell … more like warm hummus.

You’ve probably noticed an increase in the number of people out running at this time of the year. It’s not anything to do with the above, but because of another spring event – the London Marathon. There are plenty of runners out getting in their final miles and doing their rehearsals. Which leads us on nicely to…

marathonOn Saturday 15th March I was invited to talk to a group of “virgin” (not the company) marathon runners and I was chuffed to pass on my top 10 tips to help prep them ready for the big race on April 13th. We discussed everything from kit to bleeding nipples (ewww …. but a common Marathon problem for men). After the talk we had a 60 minute Q&A too and there were some great questions asked. Everyone left with an information pack I’ve put together over the years to take them to and through the event.

I’m planning to post those tips every day from April 1st (not a joke) to 13th, so if you are running the London Marathon, or any other marathon for that matter, sign up to our newsletter and you’ll get the tips too.

Celeb Fitness 0 – Prime Energy 1

The festive season is well and truly behind us now and hopefully you’ve managed to work off the Xmas pud and festive spirit. March is a great time to get into a regular fitness routine and we are here to help you rev it up with both personal training and a range of fun classes.

Have you seen all those articles in the papers where Olympic athletes and Big Brother contestants are trying to show you how to get fit? They’re doing it all wrong, and some of the techniques they show in the photos are just awful. These “stars” should stick to what they know best, and leave the fitness to the professionals like yours truly! I’ve got over four decades of experience in the fitness industry but do you see me doing the triple jump or being evicted from the Big Brother House? No!

I look forward to seeing you at a class very soon!

Oh, one more thing …

It’s so nice when you get a thank you from a class member/client for helping them achieve their goals. We recently received this message:

“It’s great to know you’re appreciated, and special in some unique individual way!!  This is my “I appreciate you” card to thank you for being special, and the encourager of all that I do and want to do.”

Did You Come to our Christmas Day Workout?

A round dozen turned out for the annual Christmas Day workout and a good time was had by all, setting everyone up for that special lunch. Having worked so hard, everyone was in need of some liquid refreshment….so it had to be Champagne, supplied by Prime Energy Fitness Limited – all part of the service.
