If you know of any runners (especially as we build towards the 2014 Town & Gown) or Easter skiers this class is for them.
Barry Briefs the JR II Runners Ahead of their Big Day …
Spring is well and truly here and I’ve been enjoying the lighter mornings and listening to the birds singing whilst I take personal training sessions in the parks or at Blenheim Palace. You can even sense the change of seasons from the smell of the soil as it warms up. No, it’s not a nasty doggy foul smell … more like warm hummus.
You’ve probably noticed an increase in the number of people out running at this time of the year. It’s not anything to do with the above, but because of another spring event – the London Marathon. There are plenty of runners out getting in their final miles and doing their rehearsals. Which leads us on nicely to…
On Saturday 15th March I was invited to talk to a group of “virgin” (not the company) marathon runners and I was chuffed to pass on my top 10 tips to help prep them ready for the big race on April 13th. We discussed everything from kit to bleeding nipples (ewww …. but a common Marathon problem for men). After the talk we had a 60 minute Q&A too and there were some great questions asked. Everyone left with an information pack I’ve put together over the years to take them to and through the event.
I’m planning to post those tips every day from April 1st (not a joke) to 13th, so if you are running the London Marathon, or any other marathon for that matter, sign up to our newsletter and you’ll get the tips too.
Prime Energy Supports Amber
Amber is one of the many charities Prime Energy Fitness supports. We might not be able to give them loads of cash like Bill Gates can, but what we can donate is coaching and equipment.
At a recent Amber fundraiser in London we went to delivered some climbing equipment recycled from Brookes Uni. While we were there an “amberteer” – that’s what the residents are known as – mentioned they needed an Olympic bar for their gym (which we set up some years ago at their centre in Crawley). It just so happened we had such a thing in our store, along with 90kg of weight. On Monday a very excited van-load of amberteers came to collect it, all keen to get their hands on it! We hope our support will help them on the road to health and happiness.

Recipe: Bazza’s Apple Topping
Last season was a bumper year for apples and all around my village people were giving them away, so I bagged as many as I could and filled the freezer. Here’s a little recipe I make to add to my porridge:
1. Core & peel 2 large or 4 small apples – a mix of varieties is nice.
2. Dice into chunks (Molly does this for me) and place in a pot with 100mls of apple or orange juice. J20 also works.
3. Add a handful of big fat raisins and bring to the boil.
4. Turn down and simmer for 5 mins.
5. Once done either leave whole or give it a little stir to make into a “mush”.
6. Cool and keep in the fridge for up to 4 days.
Add a large spoonful to your porridge. Yum … and it counts as two of your 5-a-day!

Celeb Fitness 0 – Prime Energy 1
The festive season is well and truly behind us now and hopefully you’ve managed to work off the Xmas pud and festive spirit. March is a great time to get into a regular fitness routine and we are here to help you rev it up with both personal training and a range of fun classes.
Have you seen all those articles in the papers where Olympic athletes and Big Brother contestants are trying to show you how to get fit? They’re doing it all wrong, and some of the techniques they show in the photos are just awful. These “stars” should stick to what they know best, and leave the fitness to the professionals like yours truly! I’ve got over four decades of experience in the fitness industry but do you see me doing the triple jump or being evicted from the Big Brother House? No!
I look forward to seeing you at a class very soon!
Oh, one more thing …
It’s so nice when you get a thank you from a class member/client for helping them achieve their goals. We recently received this message:
“It’s great to know you’re appreciated, and special in some unique individual way!! This is my “I appreciate you” card to thank you for being special, and the encourager of all that I do and want to do.”
