The 21st tour leaves these shores on Jan 18th 2014, and due to its success over the years it was already SOLD OUT in July 2013! We stay at a fab catered chalet in Val d’Isere and it’s always great fun. We’ve had lots of people asking about the trip so I am now thinking of running a Ski Tour mkII in March/April. Skiing in T-shirts in the spring sunshine is fabulous – let me know asap if you are interested in joining me and a group.
Weight Management Tips for the Xmas Season
Leading up to Christmas we cleared out the larder and I was 2kg lighter pre-Christmas Day. How? Portion control, lots of H2O and I ramped up the exercise too. I enjoyed planning the Christmas Day menu and we added some little tweaks – for example, a pomegranate salad (one of Sophie Grigson’s recipes) to start, and a cashew nut cream rather than dairy to go with the pud, which was no bigger per person than a small satsuma. Still meant we had plenty to eat – oh, and there was a “no sausage meat stuffing” rule in my kitchen, plus we had a “rainbow” of vegetables too.
And of course we also had our annual Christmas Day workout at Kirtlington Village Hall. This was the 21st year we’ve held this event and it was great to see so many people there. We did about 40 minutes of light exercise, all rounded off with a chilled glass of Champagne afterwards and we were done and dusted by 10am – leaving everyone plenty of time to enjoy the rest of Christmas Day!
On New Year’s Eve ………
EAT, DRINK, AND BE MERRY…..
BUT IN 2014 DOUBLE YOUR TRAINING!
Barry’s Top Lifestyle Tips for the Festive Season
There are plenty of ways to cope with the festive excess, offset it, and enjoy yourself without suffering a hangover or feeling stuffed.
Leave that to the turkey!
To get you started, here are some healthy changes/swaps for the big day to help you cut back on the calories while still enjoying loads of flavour …
Swap: turkey with the skin on basted in butter
For: skinless turkey lightly basted in its own juices or stock
Swap: sausage meat stuffing (not allowed in Barry’s house)
For: roast chestnut, cranberry & orange stuffing.
Swap: bread sauce made with cream
For: make the sauce with skimmed milk … if you have to make it at all
Swap: double thick clotted cream – what!
For: plain yogurt, creme fraiche or – if you must – low fat custard
You can save around 505 calories just by making these little swaps!
While we’re here, here’s a reminder about
The Special One
on Christmas Day!
Make room for that Christmas lunch by joining us for a brisk walk/jog and some gentle exercises!
We’ll be meeting at 9am at Kirtlington Village Hall in Oxfordshire. Fun, fitness AND a glass of champagne (and we’re not talking the cheap stuff!)
– and it’s all FREE! It’s our Christmas present to you.
So that just leaves us to say … Eat, drink, and be merry during this festive season, but … In 2014 double your training!
Merry Christmas and a happy, fit 2014 from Barry and the team at Prime Energy Fitness Ltd
Changes to Class Venues and Timetables in December and January
Kirtlington Village Hall will be undergoing major refurbishment in January. The main hall will be having the ceiling lowered, new heaters installed and new windows and doors all round – so no more George Rafts round ya Gregory Peck. (Cockney rhyming slang – work it out!) All the toilets will be refurbished too.
But this sort of an upgrade takes time, and the hall will be out of action, perhaps until Jan 20th. We are looking at our options for what to do and where to go during this period. Your suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Perhaps the school hall might be a possibility, if it’s available in the evenings?
To add to the confusion, Gosford Sports Centre is ALSO being refurbished during December – which means we will be moving the Saturday Boot Camp classes to Kirtlington for a few weeks. Please check the list below for all classes, times, locations and changes! We’ll keep you posted on any updates as soon as we can.
Class Timetable for December and into 2014

If you’re missing the workout fix why not come along to a Monday or Saturday class instead? You need to be in the room to offset the festive excess!

Circuit Weights Programme
In this class you will use all the aerobic machines, treadmills etc, and the resistance stations, some of which we adapt to fool your body’s muscle groups. For added spice we also include exercises using fitness toys like handweights, balls, bands etc.
A great way to start the day!
Class on 7th December will be at the usual venue. Classes on December 14th and 21st will take place in Kirtlington because the Gosford gym is being refurbished. We’ll be back in Gosford on the 28th at the revamped gym for a CHAMPAGNE workout to finish off the year. Once Barry has more details he will send out a follow up.
Watch this space for more details.
All sites have changing facilities, showers, and ample free car parking.
Healthy Christmas Cooking with Sophie Grigson
The cookery school with Sophie Grigson on November 14th was a smash hit. Click here to read what the Oxford Mail had to say about it. The healthy menu we prepped and cooked was fantastic and so simple to do.
Not only did we have class members and PT clients in attendance, but we were also thrilled to welcome some of the mums whose kids attend Camp Energy.
We even had a few guests drive up from London to join in the fun. The menu will definitely play a part in the Grinham festive season this year!
We are already planning another event for early in the New Year with yet another top celebrity chef … Did you know that Barry trains three TV chefs? One of these will be leading the next cookery school for Prime Energy. Watch this space for further details.
